The Rosh Marine Protected Area Community has won the Equator Prize 2010 awarding outstanding community efforts to reduce poverty through conservation of biodiversity. Rosh was nominated by SGBP

The Equator Prize committee has selected 25 local initiatives within the equatorial belt and awarded 5,000 dollars each.

A representative of the Rosh community will attend a ceremony at the UN General Assembly in New York on September 20, and will take part in the Community Summit that will facilitate peer-to-peer learning, community presentations, and special events and training related to biodiversity conservation and poverty reduction.

The Rosh community still has a chance to obtain a “special recognition” of 15,000 dollars.  Five “special recognition” communities will be announced at the ceremony in New York.
