Socotra’s bird Socotra Buzzard (Buteo socotraensis) has entered the Guinness Book of Records as the newest bird of prey in the world. It is one of 10 endemic birds currently described on the island

Richard Porter from BirdLife International formally described the species in 2010, which made the bird the most recently discovered bird of prey species.

Socotra Buzzard is a resident breeder on Socotra and it population carries a Globally Vulnerable status.
