Richard Porter from BirdLife International gave a training in endemic birds and bird watching to Socotri tourist guides on March 5 and 6, 2011. The training included a lecture and a field trip to wadi Sirhen

Richard Porter has trained local tourist guides in the past and this training was an update on the current state of Socotri birds. Richard was visiting Socotra as a consultant of a Japanese film crew making a documentary about Socotri biodiversity and kindly agreed to spare some time for the training.

New trainings for Socotri tourist guides are very much needed since numbers of tourists have been rising and some of the local men currently providing guiding services have never undergone any training in tourism and biodiversity.
